 Dr Nikolaos Eliou is professor at the Department of Civil Engineering at University of Thessaly (city of Volos, Greece). He holds a diploma in civil engineering (1984) and a PhD (1990) from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. Dr Eliou is a special advisor to Greece and Europe in road safety audits and design of road works and road safety issues in many administrative structures (municipalities, ministries etc). Dr Eliou is a qualified independent Road Safety Auditor (Safety Auditor) and monitors major national road projects. He has extensive experience in research projects as principal researcher in cooperation with Greek and European universities and institutes. He has significant qualification in urban and regional infrastructure planning and he has an extensive professional experience in highway design and study of transport engineering and development projects for municipalities and prefectures, in fields of traffic analysis and infrastructure modeling and management. He teaches highway engineering and infrastructure safety management. He is a member of several professional organizations and technical committees.
